One night in New Orleans in 1984, James Rivers was playing the saxophone and in walked Clint Eastwood after a long day of filming Tightrope. There were too many people surrounding the famous filmmaker for them to actually meet that night, but a few months later Clint phoned James asking if he would perform the music and wrote a song for the film Tightrope. This collaboration led to musical performances for “The Bridges of Madison County”, where he also had a cameo appearance, Ratboy, the Charlie Parker biopic Bird, A Perfect World and a performance at Carnegie Hall in Eastwood After Hours.
James has been a jazz musician since the 50’s and played with legendary talents over the years but this path proved challenging. “If you’re going to make music for a living, like I do, you better play for the people”, James comments. And this is exactly what he will do for us all on Thursday night Oct 24th!
He sings, plays tenor, soprano and alto saxophones as well as the harmonica and bagpipes. He and his versatile band perform jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm & blues and country music. On the eve of the Lake Placid Film Festival 2019, we join the “James Rivers Movement” for a night of unforgettable music from this legendary musician.
